Hastings Urban Bikes (HUB) is a community of people who feel passionately that active travel networks in Hastings should be better.
We exist to improve access and connectivity so that safe, enjoyable and affordable cycling, walking and bus networks are available to everyone. The streets in our community should be beautiful, sociable and human again.
HUB was formed in 2006 to encourage urban cycling in Hastings
HUB began life in 2006 with a mission to bring a safe cycling network to Hastings. It campaigned for and saw the opening of the NC2 Rock-a-Nore to Bexhill cycle route, contributed long hours and deep expertise to ESCC’s design of the Hastings Greenway up to 2014 and then spent years of frustration and despair with, to date, nothing being built by ESCC.
Hastings Borough Council currently has no Transport or Active Travel-dedicated officers and the transport officers we do rely on in ESCC are car-traffic trained. Hastings urban bikes has been reformed to help take forward 21st century interventions such as roadspace reallocation to buses, a safe cycling network and road crossings for a walking network. We need political leadership and capable, forward looking, transport officers.
We’re about more than cycling
HUB has close ties to other community groups promoting active travel and actively supports better urban resources for pedestrians, public transport users and other vulnerable road users.
Roads are for all members of the community rather than simply designed around car use.
