With new Borough and County councils in place — including new Transport Lead, Reform councillor Peter Griffiths — now is a good time to start asking portfolio holders directly why the walking and cycling infrastructure promised to the area (in LTP4, LCWIP and similar plans) has still not been built. HUB already raised this at the Hastings Borough Council Cabinet meeting on June 8th, and the Leader of the Council committed to raising it with the Leader of East Sussex Council.

 

The ESHT/Sussex College Local Transport Group continues its long-running work to improve active travel and public transport access to Hastings' three south coast hospitals — all of which are currently dominated by car parking and congestion. HUB has a role to play in providing citizen pressure to move this forward.

 

Hastings' Pride in Place programme is open for bids to improve streets, neighbourhoods and the town. HUB has already started drafting a proposal — a walking and cycling track from Ore to Ore Station — but there is scope to add more.

 

There is growing momentum to show elected representatives that walking and cycling infrastructure genuinely matters to residents. Showing up — and asking questions — at council meetings is one of the most direct ways to apply that pressure.
